Since this is my first posting, I will start off with an introduction to good bread. All these reviews that is to come are solely of my own opinion, judged from the tastebud of my mouth. I believe everyone has their opinion on things especially food. So do not be swayed by my thoughts.
Anyway, this designer bakery is beautifully located just around the corner where my new office is in this quaint Taman Rasa Sayang. This quiet place became more lively to some extent thanks to them.
The exterior landscaping reminds me of autumn in Australia
We came here on a Friday at 7.30am (it was a PH) and it was drizzling that time. I was so confident that there won't be many people due to the weather and we came at a time during which their business hour starts too. But unfortunately, there were already 18 people ahead of us when we arrived. We waited at least 30mins before we were allowed in. As we enter, the aroma of freshly baked breads filled our nostrils. It was worth the wait. Anyway, the interior wasn't really big, and due to the 'new normal' where SOPs during the RMCO was necessary, the queue was unavoidable.
The stretch of glass panel where one can see the whole pastry-making process
A good spread of freshly baked items from their sourdough country bread to canelé, kouign-amann, cookies, banana bread and kaffir lime drizzled loaf.
I read about this place before we came here. The people behind this French-styled bakery were reputable and experienced cafe owners (one of them a 3-time Malaysian Barista Champion) before they teamed up to open Dou Dou Bake.
Back to the main highlight. Yes! their sourdough bread. It is apparently made from ancient grains such as spelt, purple rye, durum and gamut. I highly recommend their flaky and buttery Sourdough Croissant (RM9) which goes 'poof' really quickly each time a new tray comes out from the oven. We also tried their Kaffir Lime Drizzled Loaf which looks sweet but they are not. The white coating which looks like icing sugar is actually refreshingly sour and it matches well with the rich butter cake loaf that it drools on. I like their Country Bread too. Not too tough on the outside although it seems a little over-baked. It's just 'ngam-ngam hou'.
the Sourdough Croissant that is very flaky on the outside and buttery on the inside
Pain au jambon
Sourdough Country Loafs (RM11 for half/RM22 whole)
Kaffir Lime Drizzled Loaf (RM10)
The Butter and Bread set (I like the pinch of salt that is separated from the butter spread)
Orange Zest Morning Citrus Bun and a cup of hot Oat Milk Latte (RM15)
Other than breads, we also ordered coffee. We had a hot latte and their unique oat milk latte since this place is run by an award-winning barista, it shouldn't go wrong. However, the oat milk latte is slightly sour to my liking (could be due to the oat milk used). But if you are a hard-core coffee drinker, I guess you may find it otherwise.
Be there early if you want to see a variety of baked goods they have and to choose from. There may be lesser crowds later in the evening, but usually their croissants would have been sold out by then.
